SAVE THE DATE! The Debtor-Creditor Annual Meeting and CLE is a celebrated tradition that our members look forward to each year to learn from one another, socialize, and strengthen our state-wide network of professional connections. The ability to maintain our normal traditions is being continuously challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic, and as such, the Debtor-Creditor Annual Meeting and CLE Planning Committee made the difficult decision to deliver the 2020 Annual Meeting in a virtual format on October 23, 2020. Our recent poll results, and the feeling of the Committee, is that this is the safest option for the health and wellness of the membership, Oregon State Bar staff, and the communities around us.
The Annual Meeting will be limited to a one-day interactive event. The event and CLE will be offered free to all Debtor/Creditor Section members.
Our esteemed slate of presenters this year include Sr. Economist William (“Bill”) Rule (“Dr. Doom”) of the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts who gave a powerful presentation on the state of the economy at Saturday Session and will present updates since COVID-19. Nationally renowned Tara Twomey, Of Counsel to the National Consumer Law Center and the Project Director for the National Consumer Bankruptcy Rights Center will speak about the impact COVID-19 has had on emerging consumer issues.
Nominations to the Executive Committee:
The Annual Meeting Committee seeks nominations to the Executive Committee from the floor at the Annual meeting each year. Due to the 2020 virtual format, the Committee will solicit nominations during the first week of September via the Debtor/Creditor list serve. Please watch for that email and nominate yourself or someone else to serve for the upcoming year.
The 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting will offer high quality CLE panels, including the ever-favorite Judges Panel. One of our normal traditions is to solicit questions from the CLE participants for the judges to address. Given this year’s format, we are soliciting those questions here. The judges are open to any questions but suggested topics include Court operations during COVID-19, remote hearings, and trial issues. Please provide questions for the judges to address during their panel to Rosemary Zook at [email protected]. All emails will remain anonymous.
